Scholarship
The Jamie Fund organization is a non-profit, community-based group of friends that live in Mansfield and who came together to create and support programs aimed at helping typically developing children accept special needs children. The Jamie Fund was inspired by, and is named after, an autistic girl named Jamie Piro, who brings joy to those that she interacts with every day including her family, friends, neighbors and classmates. Jamie’s parents have always strived to create environments where Jamie can succeed and one of the best ways to do that is to help other children become comfortable and accepting of the differences they see in Jamie and other special needs children.
In addition to creating educational programs, the Jamie Fund organization wants to increase the commitment level and involvement from adults including parents, teachers and administrators. The value of teachers is often overlooked and special education teachers even more so. It takes a unique combination of passion, patience and perseverance to be involved with special needs education. In recognition of this, The Jamie Fund organization will support a Mansfield High School graduating senior who will be pursuing a career in special education or a related field by offering a scholarship. Details of applying for this scholarship can be obtained from the guidance office at Mansfield High School.
